Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in childhood — and almost entirely preventable. A few simple daily habits make all the difference.
1. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
Use a smear (rice-grain size) for under-3s and a pea-sized amount for older kids. Supervise brushing until at least age 7.
2. Cut back on sugary snacks & drinks
It's not just the amount of sugar — it's how often. Frequent sipping on juice or milk causes constant acid attacks on teeth.
3. Never put your child to bed with a bottle
Milk pooling around teeth overnight is a leading cause of "baby bottle decay".
4. Start flossing as soon as teeth touch
A toothbrush can't reach between tightly spaced teeth. Floss picks make it quick and easy.
5. Visit the dentist every 6 months
Professional cleanings, fluoride varnish and dental sealants give your child an extra layer of protection.
Build the habits early — your child's adult teeth will thank you.
